My Ammy

ammy_projectIsn’t she beautiful!  This picture is from a portrait project I completed while I was in graduate school.  I remember that day so well…just me and Ammy.  Yesterday we celebrated Ammy’s 94 year long life, and said good-bye to her.  She is my hero, and I hope to have half as an incredible life as she had.  She was a life long learner, a gourmet chef, a crossword puzzle wiz, and lucky for me she was my grandmother.  She would share books with me, comfort me when I needed it, rub my arm while sharing stories, and offer the best advice.  When Greg and I started dating she told me to not let that one get away.  And, she was right.  Greg won her over when we were in high school by whittling her a spoon in his woodshop class. She was incredibly special to all of us.  As I carried her yesterday from the service to the gravesite I heard someone say they wondered who she was chatting with up in heaven.  The truth is, I know who and it comforts me to know my mom has her mother with her now.  I am happy they are together, and can feel the strength of my angels watching over me.
